Carlos Celdran, Filipino political comedian, death threat survivor, debuts off-Broadway play in inner Melbourne

After Carlos Celdran’s Australian debut at the 2017 Castlemaine State Festival, the queer Filipino political comedian, pop historian, anti-authoritarianism activist, and convict for the Philippine crime of offending religious feelings, will bring his off-Broadway play Livin’ La Vida Imelda to the Thornbury Theatre on 11th and 12th August.

Livin’ La Vida Imelda is a ninety-minute probe into Philippine cultural and political life under Ferdinand Marcos’s Martial Law in the 1970’s—from the rags-to-riches-to-ruin-to-renaissance perspective of notorious First Lady, Imelda Marcos. This multimedia disco-fabulous party is a group exercise in understanding and engaging twentieth century Philippine history, and current affairs. Without blinders. With judgment.

Livin’ La Vida Imelda has been staged in New York City, Toronto, Copenhagen, Dubai, Manila, Cebu, Penang, and now, Melbourne.
